China Re Group Helped in Fight against the Epidemic and Return to Work by Giving Full Play to its Professional Advantages

  In the face of the sudden novel coronavirus outbreak, China Re Group attached great importance to the prevention and control work, earnestly integrated its thoughts and actions into the spirit of General Secretary Xi Jinping's important instructions. Pursuant to the guidelines of "confidence, unity, science-based approach and targeted response", the Group made overall arrangements through efficient organization, adopted effective measures, and devoted all its efforts to the prevention and control of the epidemic.

  As a major national player in the reinsurance industry, China Re Group leveraged its professional advantages in reinsurance and primary insurance, actively undertook responsibilities, launched innovative products, and cooperated with its peers to provide comprehensive risk protection for enterprises and institutions to resume work and production, so as to fight and win the battle against the epidemic by mobilizing all resources and blocking the spread of the virus.

  Giving Full Play to Our Role as the National Reinsurance Team to Provide Solutions for the Insurance Industry

  Since the outbreak of the epidemic, China Re Group promoted and implemented the decisions and arrangements made by the CPC Central Committee, the State Council and the Party Committee of CIC. The Group took epidemic prevention and control as the most important task at present, and published the Guiding Opinions of China Re Group on Further Improving the Prevention and Control of Epidemic as the National Team of Reinsurance and Effectively Promoting High-quality Development. The Group also formulated the contingency plan for epidemic prevention and control of China Re Building to provide clear guidance for the overall promotion of epidemic prevention and control as well as operation and development.

  In accordance with the overall deployment of China Re Group, China Re P&C and China Re Life actively gave full play to the advantages of the principal business of reinsurance, quickly responded to the reinsurance needs of the industry concerning the epidemic, strengthened the supply of the underwriting capacity of epidemic-related reinsurance, extensively participated in the R&D, data analysis and pricing of insurance products in response to the epidemic, provided strong reinsurance support for the industry to respond to the epidemic, and helped the insurance industry to more precisely meet the requirements of risk protection for prevention and control.

  China Re P&C developed and formulated the Supplementary Guidelines on Underwriting in response to the epidemic prevention and control, and provided continuous guidance to support customers to carry out insurance business concerning the novel coronavirus pneumonia. In addition, China Re P&C jointly developed engineering insurance with primary insurance companies, expanded the coverage of work suspension cost due to public health incident, covered more than 1,000 engineering sections or construction sites, and provided reinsurance protection for the construction of the Huoshenshan Hospital in Hong Kong. At the same time, China Re P&C actively responded to the needs from government-supported business sectors, provided reinsurance protection for policy-backed epidemic prevention and control products for enterprises with resumed work, and acted as the largest reinsurer in the comprehensive insurance project for the resumption of work and production in Hainan Province, which was the first domestic project, and successively participated in such projects supported by several provincial and municipal governments, covering thousands of enterprises.

  China Re P&C also actively provided reinsurance guarantee for epidemic prevention and control personnel, volunteers and material delivery personnel, and successively provided coverage for disease, death and accidents during the epidemic period for medical personnel and epidemic prevention and control personnel of Ningbo and epidemic prevention and control personnel of Jingzhou District, Jingzhou City, Hubei Province. Furthermore, China Re P&C provided coverage for volunteers who have registered in the national volunteer service information system and participated in the voluntary service work of epidemic prevention and control, thereby covering approximately 20 million volunteers across the country.

  China Re Life increased its efforts in data research and product R&D in response to the demand concerning the epidemic, strengthened internal coordination, and launched the exclusive protection plan of “Resumption of Work and Lost Labor” to purchase insurance for the Group’s employees, which was also launched to the market simultaneously. At the same time, China Re Life has successively designed and developed exclusive protection for the market and provided all-round insurance solutions for healthcare personnel, disability + critical illness products for the public, and respiratory specific illness protection plans. In addition, China Re Life provided technical support and reinsurance underwriting capacity to more primary insurance company customers. As of 5 March, the Company updated the pricing basis of 6 versions successively, and acquired over 40 customers and received more than 80 business reinsurance inquiries and consultation, providing the market with the total coverage of 95 million people and risk insurance amount of 6.6 trillion, thereby becoming the backbone for the life reinsurance industry and fighting against the epidemic.

  Meanwhile, China Re Life continued to increase its efforts in training and cooperation with Internet platforms to facilitate the retention of the agency team of primary insurance companies. Audio and video training materials including “The Impact of Novel Coronavirus Pneumonia on the Insurance Industry and the Policy Outlook of the Insurance Industry in 2020” and “Big Data from Critical Illness Products” were successively launched to a number of key customers, with a detailed description of the components and actuarial principles of insurance products. These materials were well received by a number of companies and were included in the training system of various customer companies.

  Exploiting the Power of Primary Insurance to Help with the Recovery of the Victims

  China Continent Insurance, a subsidiary of China Re, leveraged the advantages of its primary insurance business, and made use of institutions across the country, and fully demonstrated the concept and power of the insurance industry to bear risks, contribute to the fight against the epidemic and support the resumption of work.

  In the course of the fight against the epidemic, China Continent Insurance immediately donated exclusive insurance coverage to medical personnel, traffic police and auxiliary police, journalists and community personnel at the front line of prevention and control of the epidemic. As of 4 March, the total insurance coverage amounted to over RMB63.4 billion. After hearing of the news that the two traffic police and auxiliary police in Hubei Province had sacrificed their lives at the frontline of epidemic prevention and control, and the death of one sanitation worker due to infection with novel coronavirus pneumonia, China Continent Insurance took the initiative to contact the relevant institutions and their families, opened a green channel, simplified the claim settlement process, and promptly paid the compensation to their families, so as to deliver warmth to the families in difficulties.

  In response to various risks faced by individuals, enterprises, communities and governments in the process of prevention and control of the epidemic in the resumption of work, China Continent Insurance launched a series of exclusive insurance products, including “Epidemic Prevention Insurance”, “Work Resumption Insurance”, “Corporate Welfare Insurance”, “Community Insurance”, “Prevention of Return to Poverty” and “Government Assistance”, among which “Epidemic Prevention Insurance” and “Work Resumption Insurance” have provided risk protection for more than 1,200 enterprises and public institutions, with the number of insured persons exceeding 120,000.

  In the meantime, in order to alleviate the worries of the returning workers, China Continent Insurance innovatively developed the exclusive product of “Return Workers’ Safety Insurance”, and donated the product to a number of returning workers in 11 provinces and cities including Zhejiang, Yunnan and Jiangsu. It is estimated that the insurance will be donated to a total of approximately 1.1 million of returning workers, with the total insurance amount of RMB275 billion.

  In addition, tens of thousands of Salar people in Xunhua County of Qinghai Province have been lifted out of poverty through the targeted efforts of China Re Group. In order to ensure that no poverty-stricken households will return to poverty due to the epidemic, China Continent Insurance, based on the actual situation, expanded the poverty alleviation insurance coverage with novel coronavirus pneumonia. Moreover, China Continent Insurance extended the protection coverage death liability, disability liability, medical liability and loss of labor cost with infection of novel coronavirus infection for 46,000 registered poor households, households at the edge of poverty, five guarantees policyholders, low-income households, disabled persons and hand-pulled noodle craftsmen in the whole county, with a total insurance amount of RMB2.776 billion, striving to win the battle against the epidemic and poverty alleviation at the same time.

  Spreading Love and Donating Money and Goods for Hubei’s Fight against the Epidemic

  Since the outbreak of the epidemic, the China Re Group family have been concerned about their fellow citizens in Hubei, providing financial and material support to the disaster areas through voluntary donation of money and goods by units and individuals, and supporting epidemic prevention and control with practical actions.

  On 27 January, after the emergency study and deployment by the Party Committee of China Re Group, China Re Group made a systematic donation of RMB10 million to actively help Hubei fight against the epidemic and overcome difficulties. After being aware of the shortage of medical protection materials in Wuhan, China Continent Insurance immediately utilized the Company’s supply chain resources, purchased 300,000 medical masks and aid materials such as disinfectant, alcohol and protective clothing, and sent them that very night to the frontline of the fight against the epidemic in Wuhan.

  At the same time, the China Re Group family under the leadership of the Party Committee members and leaders, along with the on-duty employees and retired staff, showed their love and care and actively made donations to combat the epidemic through various channels. Based on the preliminary statistics, as of March 3, China Re Group’s staff donated a total of approximately RMB2.75 million.

  It is worth noting that Cheng Shoudong, aged 78, a retired senior cadre and a senior party member of China Re Group, immediately responded to the call of the CPC Central Committee and donated RMB10,000. He said: “I might have retired from work but I will never retire from the Party, and I always bear in mind that I am a party member despite retirement. It is a duty and obligation of a Party member to donate to the fight against the epidemic.”

  Under the frost where the virus ravaged, it is the spring that has broken through the ground. Under the strong leadership of the CPC Central Committee and the arduous efforts of the people throughout the country, the situation of the epidemic prevention and control is moving steadily towards a positive direction, life and work are quickly returning normal. China Re Group will continue to thoroughly implement the instructions of General Secretary Xi Jinping and the decision-making and deployment of the CPC Central Committee and the State Council on epidemic prevention and control. In addition, China Re Group will accurately evaluate the situation of epidemic prevention and control, further strengthen the worst-case scenario mentality, practically strengthen the management of various personnel, focus on the two major aspects of preventing the virus from entering and spreading within, and implement science-based targeted measures in the prevention and control of the epidemic with determination “not to proclaim success until we have secured the final victory”, and resolutely help to win the battle of epidemic prevention and control.
